DRU takes its name from its founders, Diepenbrock and Reigers, who opened an iron foundry in Ulft, the Netherlands, in 1754. What began casting pots and pans has grown, across nearly three centuries, into Europe's market leader in gas fires and wood burning stoves, the same fire that once shaped cookware now carried indoors to warm the home, with research already under way into biogas, electricity and hydrogen for whatever comes next.

DRU's products reach the UK through Drugasar, founded in Manchester in 1975 as DRU's UK distributor and a fully owned subsidiary of the company since 2003. It's a genuine operation, not a name on a box, sales consultants, technical support, marketing and office staff, all supporting a national network of DRU approved retailers and Gas Safe installers.

Beyond private homes, the Manchester team has supplied gas heating to thousands of churches, schools, local authorities, social housing providers, offices and leisure sites across the country. That's the depth of experience standing behind every fire we install for you, spares, servicing and technical backup that doesn't depend on a call to the Netherlands.

    Local heating is the most efficient form of heating there is, you only warm the room you're living in, rather than the whole house. Up to 90% of the energy a DRU gas fire produces goes directly into that room, with very little lost.

    Every DRU gas fire we sell meets Ecodesign standards, engineered for efficient combustion and lower emissions. Clean burning means less soot on the glass, a cleaner appliance, and fresher air in the room.

    Push a button, or use the remote, and the fire is lit, no logs to stack, no ash to clear. A built in thermostat heats only to the temperature you've set, and the Eco Wave function varies flame height and volume automatically, cutting gas use by up to 50% while still looking alive.

    DRU gas fires run on biogas and propane as well as natural gas, so a fire is still possible even without a gas connection. Almost every model can be converted to propane later, storing your own supply and staying in control of your costs.

The Innovation

Beautiful flames, even when your home barely needs the heat.

Eco Wave is DRU's own gas fire technology, and it's arguably the single best reason to choose one. Rather than burning at a constant, full setting, it varies the volume and height of the flame automatically, full width, dense and genuinely alive, while using up to 50% less gas to do it.

Turned down, Eco Wave doesn't just save gas, it produces less heat too, without the flame effect losing any of its drama. That makes it especially well suited to newer, well-insulated homes, where a fire is wanted for atmosphere far more than warmth, and never looks like it's been throttled back to get there.

Choosing the Right Heat

The kW rating tells you how much heat a fire can produce to comfortably warm the space where you place it. In a traditional-size living room, around 5 kW is usually ideal — enough to keep the room comfortable without wasting fuel, overheating or underheating it.
