The Maker

Nearly fifty years spent perfecting the fireplace as a piece of the room.

Chesneys began as a modest workshop and showroom in London in the 1970s, and has grown into a family owned business recognised around the world. In the 1990s, the company turned to something few others attempted, exact historical reproductions of period stoves and fireplaces, carved and cast in marble, limestone and iron.

That grounding in materials and craft never left the brand. Chesneys went on to work alongside cultural trusts, combustion scientists, design icons and aerospace engineers to build ranges that hold their period reproductions in one hand and genuinely modern engineering in the other the National Trust Heritage Collection, Beaumont, Shoreditch, Belgravia, Salisbury, and the Alpine & Sanctuary series among them.

  • i. Engineered for efficiency.

    Most wood burning models achieve 80% efficiency or higher, with ratings up to A+. A-rated stoves waste less fuel and burn away more of the gases and soot that would otherwise go up the chimney, more heat for your home from every log.

  • ii. Clean burning, engineered in.

    A preheated airwash curtain, airtight seals, and a single lever control work together so the glass stays clear and the fire stays easy to manage, advanced clean-burn technology that never feels advanced to operate.

  • iii. Compliant, and quietly beyond it.

    Every Chesney's wood burning and multi-fuel stove we sell complies fully with DEFRA and Eco-design requirements. Meeting the legal minimum was never the end goal, several specialised models use advanced air mechanics to outperform those thresholds.

  • iv. Built for the room, not just the eye.

    Many Chesneys models use hybrid radiant-convection designs, drawing cold air from the floor through hidden channels and releasing warmer air from vents above, even heat, rather than a scorching hearth and a cold corner. A single lever manages it all.

Chesney's' visual language shifts considerably from range to range, rectangular, faceted, swept arch and domed door geometries move between historical and ultramodern with equal confidence. Every collection offers freestanding stoves and integrated log store bases, in single sided or double sided see through glass.

Not every room wants a black stove.

Chesneys carefully selected a palette to sit alongside Lakeland stone, painted panelling, contemporary plaster and oak flooring, so the stove is chosen to complement the room it stands in, not simply dropped into it.

Getting the output right

The kW rating tells you how much heat you need to comfortably warm the space where you place your stove. In most living rooms, around 5 kW is ideal, enough to prevent overheating or underheating, without burning unnecessary fuel in a bigger stove than the room asks for.
